Faith Formation (Grades 1-5)

Wednesday Evenings 6:30-7:30pm, beginning late September.

Finding God is the primary catechetical curriculum for parish children in grades 1-5 who attend a non-Catholic school and whose families have chosen the parish to assist them in the formation of their children in the Catholic faith. Led by trained catechists (volunteer teachers), children are taught in age-appropriate small community groups. Finding God is a Jesuit Ministry which is rooted in tenants of the faith, social justice, the Sunday liturgy and is developmental in nature. Allergies should be brought to the teachers’ attention. Parents assist in the formation by participating both in home and on site activities. Periodic whole family celebrations occur. Registration is required. Contact Kelley Deshler for more information about the program or registration.

Ignite (Grades 6-12)

Sunday Evenings 6:30-8pm, typically 2nd and 3rd sundays, beginning late september

The Ignite program offers a small Christian community type setting for middle school and high school students. All students grade 6-12 will start the evening together as a large group with games, music, and an introduction to the night's topic. From there students will split off into small groups by grade. Registration is required. Contact Kelley Deshler for more information about the program or registration.

Children's Choir (Grades 1 and up)

Sundays after mass 10:45-11:45am, beginning in the fall

The Christ the King Youth Choir is a vehicle of faith formation. Through participation in choir, young people learn full-throated participation in the church’s liturgy.   The ensemble is open to young singers of reading age (usually first or second grade) on up. For more information about joining this ministry, please contact Moya McGinn Mathews.

Adult Faith Formation

Wednesday Morning Scripture Study

Looking to dive deeper into scripture? Join us Wednesday mornings starting in mid-September to study different themes and topics of the bible. This year, we will be taking a look at the Gospel of John. For more information contact Kelley Deshler.

Children's Liturgy of the Word

A children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered September through May at most of our Sunday 9:30 a.m. Masses. Leaders are needed to serve with a team on a rotating basis to read the Word of God with young children and lead an age-appropriate homiletic reflection, often using mediums of art, music, and story-telling. Training is provided, as well as support and encouragement from experienced Children’s Ministers of the Word. A love of children and of God’s Word is required. Special talents are welcome! For more information about joining this ministry, please contact Kelley Deshler.

VIRTUS

Here at Christ the King, we take our responsibility to create and maintain safe environments and are committed to ensuring the safety of children, youth, and vulnerable adults. To that end, we ask all adult volunteers to help us fulfill that responsibility by completing what the Archdiocese calls the Essential 3: VIRTUS training, background checks,  and signing a Code of Conduct for Adult Volunteers before they begin volunteering. To sign-up for a VIRTUS training session, click here.

The Faith Formation catechists, in addition to the VIRTUS training, receive additional  training to catechetic.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) mandates that all dioceses provide age-appropriate church approved safety instructions for children in faith formation programs. Children in grades 1-5 will engage in the Virtus curriculum – Protecting God’s Children; grades 6-8 will use a NetSmartz program. This information will be presented in the fall and the spring as part of our regular faith formation sessions. To opt out of these lessons as a conscientious objector, please contact Kelley Deshler and we will send your request to the Archdiocesan Office.

We also have available for all parents: VIRTUS, Teaching Boundaries and Safety Guide: Guide for Caring Adults, Parent and Guardians. Contact Nadine Reiser to receive a copy.
