Safe Environment

Our Commitment

At the Church of Christ the King, we are committed to creating and maintaining a safe environment for all children, youth, and vulnerable adults. This requires the attention and commitment of every employee and volunteer to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the policies of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis and to avoid behaviors that are harassing, abusive, or inconsistent with our expectations.


All clergy, employees, parish leadership, and volunteers who interact with minors or vulnerable adults are required to complete the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis' Essential 3 Requirements (E3 Requirements).


Essential 3 (E3) Requirements include:

  • Background Check
  • Code of Conduct Acknowledgment
  • Safe Environment Training


All those working with children or vulnerable adults must renew their E3 Requirements every three years. New and returning individuals can complete or renew their requirements through VIRTUS Online.

Victim Assistance

If you suspect abuse, your first call should be to law enforcement.


If you or someone you know has experienced abuse, exploitation, or harassment involving a member of the clergy, a religious brother or sister, or a parish or school employee or volunteer, support is available.

For confidential, compassionate assistance from an independent and professional local care provider, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, contact Canvas Health at 651-291-4497.

Safe Environment Credentialing

All clergy, employees, and volunteers who interact with minors or vulnerable adults are required to complete and maintain safe environment credentials through the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. In addition, parish leaders, trustees, parish pastoral council, and finance council members are also required to maintain current credentials.

New Volunteers

If you are completing the E3 Requirements for the first time, please carefully follow the instructions in the VIRTUS Account Registration Guide when creating your account.


If you already have a VIRTUS account, contact Erin before logging in so your account can be updated.


Before You Begin

Estimated Time: 95 minutes

  1. Set aside enough time to complete all required items in one session. Incomplete accounts may result in lost data and require you to repeat your setup.
  2. Use the Google Chrome browser.
  3. Enable pop-ups for the VIRTUS website.
  4. Read and follow the directions on the website in the order presented. Skipping items, fast-forwarding, or backing up may interrupt the process and require you to repeat assignments.


You will be asked to:

  • Complete each registration field as presented on the screen
  • Complete the Code of Conduct
  • Complete the Background Check application (social security number is required)
  • Complete Safe Environment Training (one module, approximately 75 minutes)

Volunteers Under Age 18

Minors ages 13-17 who volunteer with minors or vulnerable adults must complete the required Safe Environment paperwork and provide two references.
