Dear Friend of Christ the King,
It’s hard to believe that I have been here for over a year! Where does the time go? What made it easy and a real joy was your warm welcome and support throughout this past year. We also know that it was a time of transition, which can be exciting, but also challenging. We have come a long way to getting back on track.
There are new faces on the parish staff: Paul Zdechlik as parish business administrator, Jackie Carter as volunteer coordinator, and Kelley Deshler in faith formation. Mary Jane Steinhagen returned as our pastoral minister. Uchenna Chidozie is expanding our youth ministry and together with Kelley will be creating a new Confirmation program for the high school youth including a new Sunday Night Youth Mass the first Sunday of the month. Then, there has been the response from you.
Many have stepped forward to start new programs and ministries and strengthen old ones. Our second annual Oktoberfest was a great success and people are eagerly preparing for the next installment of Trivia Night! You built a new house for a family with Habitat for Humanity and together with Families Moving Forward we welcomed homeless families to our parish home. We continue to feed the hungry at St. Stephen’s shelter and Ascension food shelf. Faith Formation classes and Carondelet School find hundreds of children and youth growing in their faith as disciples of Jesus Christ.
This has been made possible because of your generosity this past year when you affirmed your dedication to Christ the King’s future. Many of you stepped up and made the commitment to rebuild the parish community and its many ministries and programs. We speak of welcoming all; of being deeply committed to justice, peace and service, but these are not abstract ideas. These are about people, here in the parish and those to whom we reach out to, making the life and love of Jesus real in their lives, as it is in our own lives.
This coming year offers us new opportunities and challenges. To meet them I am personally asking each one of you to recommit yourself to our parish in your financial support and help us grow stronger. It’s important to focus and plan for the good days ahead, and there will be plenty of these for us as we pledge ourselves to keeping Christ the King the great parish that is has always been.
So I look forward to another great year. Thanks to all of you for your generosity of time, finances, and service. Let us continue our journey together as this community of faith remains strong and vibrant in our faith in Jesus Christ.
Father Herb Hayek, O.P.
