  1. Presentation – Brad Huard, Director of Pastoral Ministry and Outreach, Volunteer Liturgical Master of Ceremonies

Brad presented the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and concerns for his position and areas of responsibilities.  The breadth of responsibilities for this position is very large:  social justice, Families Moving Forward, Loaves and Fishes, Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Food Sunday, Thanksgiving Baskets, St Stephen’s Collections, Sunday Hospitality, New Member Hospitality and Ministry, Steak Fry, Prayer Shawl, Environmental Group, and other charitable organizations, volunteer development and resource, Communion for Homebound, Befrienders, Visiting the Sick, StrengthFinders (faith-based), Enneagram / Spiritual Direction Small Groups, Funeral Ministry (planning and grief support), supervision of lay leaders for all groups, volunteer liturgical master of ceremonies, training of acolytes, sacristans.

Concern:  spread too thin in position and in volunteers.  Possible opportunity to target ministries that we are particularly good at and have volunteers invested in.

Immediate needs:  Funeral Hospitality – lack of volunteers, possible funding of funeral luncheon.  Social Justice – new life and broader offerings needed.

  1. Presentation – Moya Mathews, Director of Liturgy and Music

Moya presented the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and concerns for her position and areas of responsibilities.  Responsible for celebration of liturgy and sacraments and all ministries to support those celebrations. Lectors are really strong; program has lots of interest and strong training program. Music has consistent quality, but numbers are smaller than in the past. Adult choir, children’s choir, and Generations choir (no Wed rehearsal, once per month all ages choir) doing well.  Funeral choir is strong. Greeters and Ushers are an opportunity for improved hospitality.  Multigenerational ministries are also an opportunity to get all ages to minister together. Moya knows CTK with 27 years of experience, but it uncertain of what’s next.  Would be an opportunity for strategic plan to include a benchmarking program or education so that Moya and her areas of responsibility continue to connect with the parish as it changes and grows.

  1. Strategic Process Check In

Jerry Roth reminded the Committee how the Data Collection phase will influence the outcome of the work the Committee will do over the next year.  Hearing from all staff and ministries, understanding our buildings and grounds, and finances will all help the Committee understand what the key issues facing the parish are.  As the Committee identifies the issues, we all will identify our branding, our core values, and our mission.  The outcome becomes the suggestions of what stays, what changes, and how that will be structured.

  1. Communications

Jeanine Bassett, Dave Peters, and Terry Knaffla sent a letter to all households going over the parish’s current state referencing finances, the CTK Planning Committee, Interim Parish Council.  The letter also invited parishioners to remain with the parish while we wait for a new pastor to be assigned.  The Committee was glad a broad communication was sent.

The formation of a Communications Task Group is underway.  Caroline Langfeldt chairs this group and has begun to recruit members.  Already two highly qualified persons have volunteered to join and the Committee is excited to have them!

  1. Financial Information Request

The Committee asked Denise D’Aurora to ask the Financial Council to provide income and balance data for a several year period.  The Committee is hoping to investigate and help predict financial trends for the parish.

  1. Data Analysis:  Discussion of St. Thomas the Apostle Strategic Plan

STA has a plan that is accessible on its website.  The parish clearly did a lot of work and has presented a long term plan that appears to suit them well.  The report is impressive and provides hope and prodding for CTK to do the same.
