Confirmation is a sacrament of initiation as it helps to strengthen the faith begun at Baptism. This sacrament is another step in the life-long process of journeying with one another toward God. Throughout this year long process, students will reflect on what it means to be a person of faith, explore elements of the Catholic faith, and discern how they want to continue their faith journey.
The sacrament of Confirmation is offered yearly to teens, who are registered members of the parish, in grade 9 or older. The program meets monthly on Sunday evenings, typically from 6-8pm, starting in December with registration opening in the fall. Confirmation will also be in conjunction with our Youth Mass, which will be held at 5pm before our sessions begin. Mass is an important element to the Catholic tradition, and Confirmation candidates are strongly encouraged to attend. Families are also welcomed at this service.
In addition to monthly sessions, the 12-month preparation process includes two retreats with sponsors, service projects, community engagement, and a special overnight retreat called A Journey Home. At this retreat, students will spend the night sleeping in boxes with our friends at St. Joan of Arc to raise awareness and funds for those experiencing homelessness. There is a $150 program fee, payable upon registration in the fall.
Confirmation candidates are also required to complete service experiences as well as community engagement as a part of their discernment process. We are asking students to complete 3 service experiences of their choosing, as well as engage in our community of Christ the King. Students will need to choose 3 events/meetings/celebrations that take place at Christ the King to learn more about our church community. Examples include going to a baptism, attending a Holy Day service, participating in Choir, going to a scripture study, or attending a parish wide event such as the Pig Roast. There are many things to participate in, students can check the weekly bulletin to see what things are going on each week! Student will then be required to complete a brief reflection. Reflections forms will be posted below:
